Technical Note Nr. 2:
HP Chemstation configuration in order to work with the MBPet software.

Análisis de acetaldehído en botellas PET

Software de Quartz

Applicable to: MBPet Version 5.0.
Last change: March 29, 2000.

SUMMARY

These are the steps required to configure the HP Chemstation in order to work with the MBPet sofware.

PROCEDURE

The procedure consists of five steps, and is in order to create the method Acetalde.M at the HPChemstation:

  1. Open the HP Chemstation.
  2. Insert the cromatographic parameters.
  3. Insure that the HP Chemstation and the MBPet match the name of the acetaldehyde.
  4. Insure that HP Chemstation saves the report in the correct file.
  5. Save the method as Acetalde.M

These are the required steps:

  1. Open the HP Chemstation.

At the "Start" menu of Windows NT, go to "Programs", "HP Chemstations", and select "Instrument 1 Online" (or Instrument 2, or the correct one, but make sure it is the Online one). Open the Acetalde.M method if already exists.

  2. Insert the cromatographic parameters.

At the HP Chemstation, at "Instrument", select "Edit Parameters".

There you must check/insert the following:

    • "Valves": configure valves 1 and 2 as switching and valve 8 as gas sampling.
    • Valves timetable:
      • 0,01 min valve 2 ON
      • 0,10 min valve 1 ON
      • 0,11 min valve 2 OFF
      • 1,00 min valve 1 OFF
    • Oven and injection port: 140ºC, Aux Temp: 90ºC, Detector: 250ºC.

At "Instrument", "Select Injection Source", choose "Valve".

    Save method as "Acetalde.M".

  3. Insure that the HP Chemstation and the MBPet match the name of the acetaldehyde.

At the HP Chemstation, load method "Acetalde.M", go to "View" menu, "Data Analysis", "Calibration", "Calibration Table" and verify that the name given to the acetaldehyde match EXACTLY with the name given at the "Manteinance" screen at the MBPet software. If that is not the case, modify them so they will match even with the capital letters (if used).

Also, check that retention time of the acetaldehyde is correct.

    Save method as "Acetalde.M".

  4. Insure that the HP Chemstation saves the report in the correct file.

At the HP Chemstation, load method "Acetalde.M", go to "View", "Data Analysis", "Report", "Specify report", and make sure that "File" and ".TXT" checkboxes are selected at the left upper corner of the window, and that "Report" is written at the "File name" box.

One more thing to check is that the report type must be ESTD.

    Save method as "Acetalde.M".

  5. Save method as Acetalde.M

At the "Method" menu, select "Save As", and write "acetalde.m" EXACTLY before saving.
